While she would go on to become one of the world’s richest supermodels, Kate was born into humble beginnings in Croydon, her mum a barmaid and her dad a travel agent. Spotted at JFK airport after a holiday in the Bahamas at the age of 14, she was promptly signed to the world-renowned Storm Model Management.
Her breakthrough came when she donned the cover of ubercool fashion mag The Face, aged 16. She would go on to transform the fashion industry with her controversial waif-like figure. While supermodels of the time, like Cindy Crawford and Elle Macpherson, were tall and curvaceous, Kate’s heroin chic earned her the title of the world’s first anti-supermodel. We haven’t seen many curves on the catwalks since.
Working with every major fashion house in the industry, Kate became officially the coolest face of the 90’s. Her party hard lifestyle, music festival antics, effortlessly cool wardrobe, cocaine abuse and serial rockstar dating meant she was never out of the papers. Some things never change…
Kate has since branched out into fashion design, launching her first Topshop range in 2007 to screaming fans.
She famously dated Johnny Depp, Pete Doherty and Jefferson Hack, with whom she has a daughter, Lila Grace, born in 2002. In 2007 she began dating The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince and on 1 July 2011 the couple in wed. The reception lasted for a full three days – Mossy sure knows how to throw a party!
