Biography:
Loose Woman Kate was born in Cheltenham in February 1973 and initially started out in journalism. She worked for the Sunday Mirror from 1992, before becoming the editor of Smash Hits magazine in 1995. The pop mag was essential reading for teens across the nation and Kate was its youngest ever editor, aged just 22.
Kate then went on to study drama, hoping to get her face on TV. With her cheery smile and unshakable confidence in front of the camera, she was hired by Channel 4 to present a cookery show. She landed a dream job presenting Holiday on the BBC, where she basically got paid to go on holiday, the lucky thing. While at the BBC she also got to present Top of the Pops!
In a move to ITV, she became the face of some of the channel’s most high profile shows. She presented Pop Idol Extra and The X Factor before being sacked in a shake up of the programme’s line up, replaced by Dermot O’Leary.
Kate moved on to become anchor of the eternally popular all-girl daytime chatshow Loose Women, again at ITV. She joined the show in 2008, in its 10th year on the telly.
In 2008 Kate gave birth to a baby boy called Ben. She was engaged to Ben’s dad DJ Darren Emerson for seven years, but the couple sadly announced their split in February 2011.
