Biography
Born in Teddington, Keira grew up in the posh London suburb of Richmond. Born into a family of thesps – her mum is a Scottish playwright and her dad an actor – Keira had her sights firmly set on an acting career from a very early age. She requested an agent at the age of just three – talk about determined!
Keira had to wait another three years for an agent, then went on to win small TV and film roles throughout her childhood. Her breakthrough came with Bend It Like Beckham at the age of 17. The success of the footie-themed Brit flick helped raise her profile and she then landed a dream roll in Hollywood blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
She’s since starred in rom-coms, psychological thrillers, and an ill-fated action role (Domino. Eeech). Keira then began to concentrate on more serious period roles, like Atonement and The Duchess. In 2005 her performance in Pride & Prejudice resulted in an Emmy, as well as a five-year relationship with gorgeous co-star Rupert Friend.
She branched out into theatre with her West End debut The Misanthrope, which gained Keira positive reviews as well as, rather scarily, a 41 year-old stalker. Her striking gamine looks, have led to plenty of modelling deals and she is now the face of uberchic Chanel Mademoiselle.
Since April 2011 Keira has been dating hot rocker and Klaxons keyboardist James Righton.
