Biography
Everyone’s favourite pint-sized pop princess was born in May 1968 in Melbourne, Australia. Kylie has one brother, Brendan, and a far more famous sister, pop star wannabe Dannii Minogue.
Both Minogue sisters were regular performers on Australian TV from a young age but Kylie’s big break came with a role in the hit Aussie soap Neighbours, playing mechanic Charlene. Brits fell in love with Kylie for the first time, with 20 million UK viewers tuning in to watch her marry Jason Donovan.
On the back of her Neighbours success Kylie was snapped up by top 80s cheese pop producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, and subsequently had 80s smash after smash with hits like I Should Be So Lucky, Especially For You, Hand On Your Heart and Better The Devil You Know. A pop superstar was born.
Kylie’s much-papped relationship with dirty rock‘n’roller Michael Hutchence of INXS put paid to her squeaky clean image. Working with edgier artists like Nick Cave and the Manic Street Preachers gave her a chance to showcase indie Kylie, dark Kylie and sexy Kylie.
With her star beginning to fade a little, she made the comeback of all comebacks in 2000 courtesy of a pair of tiny gold hotpants and a perfect pop song called Spinning Around. Since then she has successfully fought off breast cancer, made the synthpop genre her own and dated some of the world’s most incredibly gorgeous men, keeping us dancing the whole time. Thank you Kylie!
