Biography

International pop sensation and meat dress-wearing superstar Lady Gaga was playing piano at age four, penning ballads by 13 and performing live at age 14. A born performer, after nabbing lead rolls in a bunch of high school musicals she enrolled in New York’s Tisch School of the Arts, studying music.

By age 19 she was signed to ultra-hip Def Jam Recordings, albeit for just three months. She played underground clubs round Manhattan’s Lower East Side with her band of neo-burlesque go-go dancers, putting on ever-crazier performance art and music shows. The time spent developing her act and working on costumes would be put to good use, and it wasn’t long before this unique little lady would become the centre of the world’s attention.

Her breakthrough was signing to Streamline Records, where she famously penned songs for the Pussycat Dolls and Britney Spears. But it was in 2008 that she emerged as a star in her own right, outshining Britney et al in an instant. Now in LA, her album The Fame was launched to critical acclaim. It spawned hits like ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’, and Grammys and platinum discs came pouring in. Her latest album Born This Way topped the charts in 24 countries and sold more than a million copies in its first week in the US.

Lady Gaga has also commanded international press attention with her increasingly bonkers videos, interviews, stage shows and particularly her outfits, channelling everything from Madonna to glam rock, raw meat to surrealism.
