Biography
Born in the Hampshire countryside, fabulous folkie and NME cover star Laura grew up around music, with her dad running a recording studio. She plays the guitar, bass and piano, and moved to London, to be part of the city’s burgeoning nu-folk scene.
She released a series of EPs when she was just 17, and her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. The album was produced by her then boyfriend Charlie Fink of Noah and the Whale, and Laura was an original member of his band. The band’s album First Days of Spring documents Charlie and Laura’s breakup.
Laura has since gone on to release two further critically acclaimed albums, being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize once more, and winning the Best British Female BRIT and the NME’s Best Solo Artist award in 2011.
She went on to date fellow nu-folker Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons, dumping him after he cheated on her. Boo hiss! Marcus is now stepping out with Carey Mulligan, while Laura is now seeing Gavin & Stacey star Mat Horne.
