Madonna is one of the biggest stars of a generation, officially the most successful female solo artist ever, Madonna is the Queen is Pop.
Madonna has sold over 250 million records with The Guinness World Records listing her as the world’s top-selling female recording artist of all time.
Madonna’s career exploded with her second album, Like A Virgin, which was accompanied by a rather sexy image. A sexy image which led to the release of her book Sex, album Erotica and film Body Of Evidence which all had erotic themes. Since then Madonna has released hit after hit including the albums Ray of Light, Music and Confessions of a Dancefloor. Plus as many live performances including that kiss with Britney during a performance at the VMA’s.
Madonna’s love life has experienced as many changes as her image over the years. In August 1985 Madonna married Sean Penn but the relationship ended just four years later. In 1996 she gave birth to her first child, Lourdes, whose father is actor and fitness instructor Carlos Leon.
Madonna met her second husband Guy Ritchie in 1998 at a dinner party hosted by Sting's wife Trudie Styler and two years later the pair tied the knot and had a son, Rocco.
However, the couple have since split after 8 years together and Madonna has been linked to a series of younger men including current squeeze Jesus Luz who is 28 years her junior.
Madonna is committed to the Jewish religion kabbalah.
She has even changed her name to Esther for the religion and given a ridiculous £12 million to a school to enlighten youngsters about Kabbalah teachings.
Madonna's adoption of a baby boy, David Banda, from Malawi made headlines in 2006. Madonna compared the "painful" struggle of her adoption controversy over Malawian child David Banda with the suffering women go through in natural childbirth.
Madonna has also attempted an acting career, starring in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan, Evita and the ill fated Swept Away... possibly, the less said about that the better.
