Biography
Sugar-sweet yet extremely sultry Mariah Carey is hailed as one of the greatest female artists of all time, she’s well known for her numerous awards, barely-there mini dresses and a five-octave vocal range which she uses to hit notes only dogs can hear.
She started singing from the age of 3, when your mum’s an opera singer/vocal coach and you’re named after a song, chances are you’re going to end up as a global musical phenomenon.
Mariah didn’t have to worry about her dreams of worldwide success being just a sweet sweet fantasy baby, because this girl was headed for pop stardom and little did teeny Mariah know, her career would span over 20 years selling over 200 million albums, singles and videos worldwide.
She would also be dubbed one of the biggest selling artists in music history, not bad for someone who skipped school so much her friends nicknamed her ‘Mirage’.
She shot to fame with her cover of The Jackson 5’s I’ll Be There on MTV Unplugged in 1992, which reached number 1 in the US Chart.
Since then Mariah has released some of our favourite tunes that we’ve happily murdered in the shower including Heartbreaker, We Belong Together and All I Want for Christmas Is You.
She’s been likened to stars such as Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, comparisons for which she’s very grateful despite one fact that separates her from these Divas; she writes her own material (Yeah, in your face Whit), oh and she sang for President Obama (that’s right Celine). She’s starred in successful films and is well known for her philanthropy helping out charities such as The-Make-A-Wish-Foundation and The Fresh Air Fund.
Mariah found true love second time round on the video shoot to her single ‘Bye Bye’ where she met her now husband Nick Cannon.
It’s no wonder Mariah’s been labelled a Diva, when she’s not collaborating with Hip Hop/R&B A listers stars such as Jay Z, Usher, Kanye West and *cough*Westlife*cough* She’s relaxing at home with hubby Nick awaiting the birth of their twins.
