Biography
Hollywood hearththrob Matt grew up 2 blocks down from his BFF Ben Affleck. He caught the acting bug early starring in several high school plays before heading to Harvard to study English in 1988. He dropped out in 1992 to pursue his acting career in LA.
Matt landed his first (very, very small) role in Mystic Pizza in 1988, starring in some TV movies and losing a huge amount of weight to play a small role in the war drama Courage Under Fire. He hit the big time with his lifelong pal Ben Affleck in Goodwill Hunting in 1997. The pair wrote and starred in the film, winning the Best Screenplay Oscar for their efforts.
This opened doors for Matt in Hollywood and he followed up with roles in some huge box office hits with critically acclaimed roles in Saving Private Ryan and The Talented Mr. Ripley, branching out into more alternative fare in Kevin Smith’s Dogma and Gus Van Sant’s Gerry, which he also co-wrote.
Matt has remained one of the most in-demand leading men in Hollywood, starring in blockbuster franchises like Ocean’s Eleven and the Bourne series, sticking mainly to psychological thrillers, occasionally branching out into comedy, with a star turn in Tina Fey’s hit 30 Rock sitcom.
After dating Good Will Hunting co-star Minnie Driver, spending two years with Winona Ryder, he married bartender Luciana Bozán Barroso in 2005.
