Biography

Sarcy queen of the hipster T4 scene, Miquita was born and bred in London, her mum a TV presenter and former member of post-punkers Rip Rig + Panic alongside her BFF Neneh Cherry.

Miquita hit our screens in 2001 at age 18 presenting Popworld alongside her equally arch co-host Simon Amstell. Unusually for a modern-day music show aimed at teens, it was actually bloomin’ great. Not afraid to affront their (occasionally) A-list guests, moments like Simon asking Britney Spears if she’d ever licked a battery made for pure telly gold. Oh how we miss it.

Leaving Popworld in 2006, Miquita stayed on at T4, popping up on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and the occasional Freshly Squeezed. She presents her own 4music show The Month with Miquita and has done a spot of Radio 1 DJing too.

Miquita’s also making a bit of a habit of getting fired. In 2007 she hinted that she’d been fired from Radio1 after making comments about Fearne Cotton in the NME, and in 2010 she was suspended for referring to Ke$ha in four-letter word terminology at the NME awards while in earshot of the stupidly monikered star. Woops. T4 did not renew her contract. Boo hiss.

Still, that just leaves her more time to hang out round trendy Shoreditch in cut-off denims and a trademark hipster-do top knot, knocking back the cocktails with her best pals Alexa and Lily.
