A London lass through and through, Natalie Cassidy began her acting career studying at the Anna Scher Theatre School in Islington, London. It’s a famous school known for training up top British acting talent like Sid Owen, Patsy Palmer, Joe Swash and Phil Daniels - so, basically, the cast of Eastenders.
Natalie joined Enders in 1993 as Sonia Jackson, Bianca’s little sister and the youngest daughter of the eternally troubled Jackson family. She played Sonia from 1993 until 2007, with tears, death, an attempted murder charge and a lesbian fling along the way. Fleeing Walford for the good ol’ US of A meant that Sonia’s character was free to return whenever the scriptwriters deemed fit, and Natalie has indeed made several visits back to the Square since.
After appearances on The Catherine Tate Show and treading the boards in various successful theatre productions, Natalie became serious gossip column fodder in 2007 after some dramatic weight loss. Fitness DVDs and TV diet specials followed, as did weight gain, weight loss, weight gain, you know the pattern.
After taking part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2009, Natalie had a baby girl in September 2010 with her transport manager boyfriend Adam Cottrell. Recent headlines have been unhappy ones for Natalie after her boyfriend was arrested and charged with assaulting her at their home in May 2011.
