Biography:
Hip hop sensation Nicki was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to Queens, NYC when she was five. She had a turbulent time at home, and has talked about her dad’s drink and drug problems and abusive behaviour. Music was her way out of family feuding and she studied at New York’s renowned LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
Nicki’s musical career began when she started releasing mixtapes in 2007. She then had top ten US chart success in 2009 with the rap group Young Money Entertainment alongside Lil Wayne. With her totally unique look, crazy accents, insane wardrobe and hip hop talents, it was only a matter of time before Nicki became a megastar in her own right.
Releasing her debut solo album, Pink Friday, in 2010, it topped the US charts and went platinum in less than a month. Nicki’s gone on to become the craziest dresser in hip hop and is the first artist ever to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. In 2011, her Superbass single became a top ten hit in the UK and she toured with Britney Spears.
Along the way, Nicki’s amassed a huge and obsessive fanbase. Touring in 2011, Nicki’s ‘barbz’ created pandemonium at Heathrow and she was forced to leave the Dorchester Hotel after a giant crowd caused chaos there too.
