Biography
Noel Gallagher shot to fame in the mid 1990s with Britpop favourites Oasis, alongside his brother and troublemaker-in-chief Liam. Their brand of swaggering Mancunian indie and sweary rabble-rousing struck a chord with the British record-buying public at the time, and before long they were headlining massive arenas and having their private lives splashed across the tabloids.
Noel is the older of the two Gallaghers, and is widely considered to be the smarter of the two, writing all of the songs on their first few albums. While the brothers’ combustible relationship was very much in evidence in their early interviews, relations have become increasingly strained in recent years.
The pair have fallen out loads of times, but they always seem to manage to put their differences aside long enough to put out a new album and tour every now and then.
However, their most recent split has a bit more of a permanent look about it, stemming from a bout of backstage fisticuffs and guitar smashing in 2009.
Since then, Noel has embarked on a solo career, and married his long-term girlfriend Sara MacDonald in June 2011. However, the brothers’ public name-calling continues apace, so it surely won’t be long until they get the Oasis show back on the road.
