Biography
@ollyofficial
Born in Witham, Essex, Olly has a twin brother called Ben and a sister called Fay. He attended Notley High School in Braintree where he was one of the teams star players. His love of the beautiful game lead him to continue on to play semi-professionally for Witham Town. Despite being from Essex, he’s actually a Manchester United supporter. The red devil!
Olly auditioned for the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, competing for first place against Joe McElderry, who ultimately won, and Jedward, who definitely didn’t. Along the way he gained sincere praise from his mentor Simon Cowell. Whilst on the show, the cheeky chappy dueted with Robbie Williams on his hit Angels and developed his trademark Olly wiggle.
When his time on The X Factor came to an end, Simon Cowell promptly signed Olly to his Syco label. In 2010, he released his cheery, breezy, debut single Please Don’t Let Me Go which went straight to number one – prompting him to strip naked in heat! Phwoar.
Since his first release, he’s had number one hits with Heart Skips A Beat and Dance with me Tonight – both taken from his second album In Case You Didn’t Know in 2011.
He has spent much of early 2012 touring with One Direction in America. Lucky boy.
The Essex lad’s third studio album is due for release in late 2012. This will be supported by a tour that is expected to kick off in early 2013.
Not just content with singing though – Olly has raised buckets of cash for charity by being part of the group that trekked through Kenya in 2011 for Red Nose Day. He also played for England in Soccer Aid 2012. He got a stint co-hosting The Xtra Factor with Caroline Flack in 2011 and will continue this role during 2012.
His talents don’t end here however – the star is releasing his autobiography Happy Days in October 2012. Is there anything this boy cannot do?
Olly hasn’t been linked to any ladies in the past few years. He’s such a busy boy bless him. It’s been rumoured though that he’s that desperate for a girlfriend he wants to go on Take Me Out when it returns to our screens later in 2012. Watch this space.
