Biography
One Direction are those cheeky X Factor fellas who turned up in 2010 as solo stars and left as one of the biggest boybands of all time.
When the X Factor judges decided these five young cuties - Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson - would work better as a group it was a Eureka moment of epic proportions. They gave some seriously impressive perfomances during their time on the show, considering they'd only just met, including their amazing rendition of Kim Wilde's Kids In America.
After coming third in the competition, the boys' success just grew and grew. When they released their debut single What Makes You Beautiful in Spetember 2011 it stormed the charts and went to number one - probably something to do with us buying a million copies. Their following singles singles Gotta Be You and One Thing both made the top ten.
The band's first album Up All Night entered the UK albums chart at number two, selling 138,631 copies, the highest sales for a number two album in 2011, and became the fastest-selling debut album on the UK albums chart of 2011. And the US fans loved it too - it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, making One Direction the first UK group in US chart history to debut at number one with their debut album.
What Makes You Beautiful won the boys their first BRIT Award for Best British Single in February 2012.
Wowzer!
In April the boys made their way over to the US of A and Australia for a sell-out tour. Oh how we missed them.
The scallywags are currently writing and recording their second album with Lego House star Ed Sheeran. We're expecting one hell of a pop treat from these guys.
Don't let us down, yeah?
