Biography:
Actor and political activist Sean was born into a showbiz family in California. His dad Leo was an actor and director and his mum Eileen Ryan is an actress. His dad’s job gave Sean an early foot in the door - he got his first roles as a child in the Little House on the Prairie series, which his father directed.
His big movie break came in 1982 when he stole the show playing perma-stoned surfer dude Jeff Spicoli in the cult 80s classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Sean then spent the best part of the 80s being married to Madonna, beating up paparazzi, and making a name for himself as a serious actor. Sean married Her Madgesty in 1985, with Madonna calling him“the coolest guy in the universe”. He was later charged with domestic assault before the couple split in 1989.
Sean’s since become one of the most respected leading men in Hollywood. With five Academy Award nominations to his name, he’s starred in Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown, Dead Man Walking, I Am Sam, and the Palme d’Or-winning The Tree of Life in 2011. He scooped two best actor Oscars for his performances in Mystic River and Milk in 2008.
Sean married his second wife, actress Robin Wright, in 1996. After filing for divorce three times they finally split in July 2010. Sean then dated younger lady Scarlett Johansson in early 2011, but the couple split after five months together.
