Biography

Musclebound hunk Tom hails from Hammersmith and became an instant international movie star with his breakthrough role in the mindmeltingly confusing Hollywood blockbuster Inception in 2010. But Tom has been working as an actor on stage and screen since 2001.

Born to two very creative parents, his dad is a comedy writer and his mum a painter, Tom went to private school before training at the Richmond Drama School and Drama Centre London. He got his first big break landing a role in the acclaimed hit WWII series Band of Brothers, produced by Stephen Spielberg. That same year he starred in Black Hawk Down.

Tom’s since gone on to put his muscle to good use in edgy film roles like Bronson, playing notorious criminal Charles Bronson, and as Bane in the forthcoming Batman sequel The Dark Knight Rides Again.

Tom has been married to Sarah Ward but the couple divorced in 2004 after 5 years together. He has a son, Louis born in April 2008, with former girlfriend Rachel Speed, and met his most recent love Charlotte Riley when the two played opposite each other in ITV’s steamy adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The two became engaged in July 2010, and the couple were rumoured to have split in February 2011.
