Biography
Musclebound R&B god Usher grew up in Chattanooga, becoming the star of his local church choir at age nine. Recognising Usher’s obvious talents, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia to kick-start his music career. Spotted on the TV talent show Star Search he was signed by legendary music mogul LA Reid at age 14.
His breakthrough came with his six-times platinum second album, My Way, topping international charts with the hits You Make Me Wanna and Nice & Slow. With his new brand of R&B, silky smooth voice, and dance moves so slick they made Michael Jackson look like your uncle dancing at a wedding, Usher was a born superstar.
To date he’s released six studio albums, three of them number 1’s, nine US chart-topping singles, picked up five MTV awards, seven Grammy’s, and has sold more than 65 million records worldwide. If that weren’t enough, it turns out Usher is a talented actor too, playing Marvin Gaye in the TV drama American Dreams and starring in teen flicks like The Faculty, She’s All That, and Killers alongside Ashton Kutcher.
Usher has dated many, many, many women, including TLC’s Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, Brandy, Monica, and Naomi Campbell before marrying stylist and mother of three Tameka Foster in 2007. After having two children of their own, the couple split in 2009. More recently in a match surely written in the stars, the King of R&B has been spotted getting cosy with the official Queen of R&B, Rihanna.
