ery few stars have been able combine success in the film, television, and pop music worlds quite as successfully as Will Smith. At 16, he began his showbiz career as part of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, who scored a massive worldwide hit with the classic ‘Boom Shake The Room”.
However, it was his starring role in the popular NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air that made him a household name, and gave a new lease of life to his musical career. Hits such as ‘Getting Jiggy With It’ and ‘Miami’ soon followed, and a plum role in the box-office smash ‘Independence Day’ established him as a major movie star to boot.
Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength, with a string of multi-platinum records, several smash hit movies, and a couple of Oscar nominations to his name. He is now one of the top earners in the entertainment business, and his kids Willow ‘Whip My Hair’ Smith and Jaden ‘The Karate Kid’ Smith appear to be following in his footsteps.
These days, Smith’s ambitions appear to be extending beyond the entertainment business, with a move into politics – and a run for the presidency – very much on the cards. However, if a real-life run for the White House doesn’t work out, he could still get to play Barack Obama in a movie – the President himself has personally recommended him for the role “because he has the ears”.
