The 9 O'Clock News – Fri 7 Dec

Amy is a very talented mess
Amy Winehouse has been nominated for an incredible SIX Grammy awards, including Best Album, Best Song (for Rehab) and Best Newcomer. Despite all
the dramas in her personal life, it seems her career, in the US at least, is hitting a new (natural) high – she has the second-most nominations after Kanye West. The awards ceremony is on 10 Februuary in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on CBS. Let's hope she gets her act together in time to collect a few gongs.

BBC “sorry” over Strictly remark
Oops, looks like Arlene Phillips is in a bit of hot water after a comment about Polish people on last weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing. Likening rugby star Kenny Logan and his Polish-born partner Ola Jordan's dance to a pole-dancing routine, the loud-mouthed judge said, "It was like Poles from Poland." The BBC received 32 complaints about the remark, leading them to issue an apology stating that it was not intended as a slight on Polish people. "Under the pressure of the live environment, Arlene did not express herself in the manner that she had intended," the BBC said.

More bad news for Gavin
Rugby star Gavin Henson is nursing a broken bone in his left hand and facing another enforced absence from the sport. Despite press speculation, the injury did not occur during the drunken antics on a train involving him and three friends last Sunday. Although passengers complained of rowdy behaviour (including suspected urination in the carriage – eww) and the four were questioned by the British Transport Police after the journey, it seems that the injury occured earlier that afternoon during a match between Gavin's team, the Ospreys, and Harlequins. The team doctor, Rhydian Lewis (no, not THAT Rhydian), confirmed that Gavin had suffered a "fracture of the fourth metacarpal of the left hand" during a game that saw Gavin score all his winning team's points and be named Man Of The Match. If only his personal life was going so well.

Rupert Everett whinges about Hugh Grant
Poor old Rupert Everett has revealed that he feels underused and unloved in the acting profession. The actor said, “It’s not ideal to be homosexual in my business. For instance, I’m every bit as good as Hugh Grant, and I can do the same sort of thing, but look at the roles he gets.” He added, “He’s always working and I work hardly ever.” Er, aren’t you just in the new St Trinian’s film, Rupe?

It's the news!
