The 9 0'Clock News – Thu 29 May

Why Nicola really dumped her boyfriend:
When we can’t decide whether or not to dump our fella, it’s usually our mates and our mum we turn to for advice, but the same can’t be said for Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts – she decided to seek guidance from the spirit world. The red-haired singer, who recently split from her long-term boyfriend Carl Davies, made the big decision to bin her man after consulting a clairvoyant in Brighton. “Before she went in to the fortune teller, Nicola looked happy,” said an onlooker, “But when she came out, she got straight on the phone.” Nicola and Carl had always had a fiery relationship, and even ended up having a public slanging match at the NME awards last year. A source close to the star said, “Dumping Carl is one of the biggest decisions Nicola has ever had to make. They were totally in love, but things turned sour after a string of rows.” A spokesman for Girls Aloud confirmed, “Nicola is interested in hearing what clairvoyants have to say.” Well, we suppose you can’t argue with a psychic. What about you lot? Have you ever had help from the supernatural?

Leona gets even bigger
As if it hasn't been played enough to have its name changed to Bleeding Ears, Leona’s hit tune Bleeding Love has entered a whole new level of popularity. The video for the hit single has made it into YouTube’s Top Ten most viewed videos of all time – making her the first British artist to make it anywhere near the top ten. And at the last count, a whopping 55 million people had watched the hit video, bagging her the sixth place from the top. Ahead of her is Avril Lavigne with Girlfriend and Timbaland featuring One Republic's Apologize.

Lourdes wants to be like her mum
Is there room for another Madonna in this world? Answers on a postcard please... But it seems that her daughter Lourdes is already limbering up to take the limelight. Lourdes is already taking lessons at London dance studio Pineapple and is said to be desperate to join her mum on tour this autumn. A source said, "Lola is the best in her dance classes and wants to perform a special sequence alongside Madonna at the 02 Arena. Madonna thinks Lola is a brilliant dancer and loves the idea, but hubby Guy is less keen. He doesn't want her to become a bratty stage school child."

Bad news for Eurovision fans…
It’s becoming more and more of a joke every year (a turkey was entered this year, for God’s sake!), and now it looks like the UK’s guaranteed place in the Eurovision Song Contest could be under threat. Following last week’s Eurovision results, Terry Wogan, Simon Cowell and Bruce Forsyth have all spoken out critcising Eastern European countries for always voting for one another – and the event’s organisers are NOT happy about it. The UK, Germany, France and Spain – that are always guaranteed a place in final because they contribute the most – ended up in bottom ten, sparking concern that the show has become biased against Western Europe. The head of the Eurovision Song Contest said, “Every year we evaluate and debrief each contest. We will discuss these things there.” Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if we had to fight for a slot, it might mean that we actually get a half decent act representing us for a change...
