Jade Goody given "miracle drug"
Jade Goody has revealed that a new "miracle drug" has given her a flicker of hope in her cancer battle. Just yesterday the star was told the devastating news that her cancer had spread to her liver, groin and bowel, but now the Big Brother star will start a two-month course of Hycamtin – a drug that is usually only given to people in advanced stages of cervical cancer. It's thought the drug will be administered through a drip while chemotherapy continues in a bid to keep the other tumours at bay. Jade will start the treatment immediately, after which scans will reveal if the tumours are responding. The hope comes amid fears that the cancer that has now spread around her body can not be suppressed. William Soutte, honorary reader in gynaecological oncology at Imperial College, London, said, "There is no treatment available that is effective. The fact the cancer has gone to lymph nodes in her groin and her liver is a very serious sign." Hycamtin, also known as Topotecan, is seen as the last line of defence and weakens cancers cells by blocking the enzymes that can strengthen them.
Britney’s dad seeks Sam Lutfi prosecution
Things aren’t looking too great for Britney Spears’ former manager Sam Lutfi. While the Spears clan sought a restraining order against him earlier this week, they’re now pursuing legal action against Sam following accusations he drugged the star with sedatives. Crikey. A source close to Britney’s dad Jamie reveals, “Jamie also believes Sam tried to take control of her life and finances." Sam, however, has hit back, and has branded Jamie Spears “violent and unpredictable” – and is suing both Jamie and Britney for breach of contract. We’ll just have to sit and wait to see how this pans out… but expect the mud-slinging to continue…
Bales's mum defends his sweary rant
Ever since the audio of Christian Bale's very sweary rant was leaked onto the internet, people all across the globe have been expressing their shock at the actor's bad temper. We don't know about you, but our ears are still burning, even with all this snow around. Anyway, despite using more F-words than an irate Gordon Ramsay, Christian still has the support of his mum – even though she reported him to the police last year following an argument. "It sounds as if a lighting engineer got in the shot," said Jenny Bale yesterday, "So I can understand his anger, but not the length of the tirade." She later admitted it was "upsetting" to hear her son lose his temper so spectacularly, but argued that it was only his perfectionist nature which caused him to become so frustrated. In the rant, in which the Dark Knight actor used the F-word a whopping 39 times, it's clear that Christian has totally lost control – and it is rather frightening. Apparently the actor has always been somewhat temperamental. According to one of his former assistants, Bale would "erupt" if something was not just right. "He would yell until he was red in the face," Harrison Cheung confesses, "It was very intimidating." The actor's latest tirade came as no shock to the acting world, however – apparently some of them even have nicknames for the short-tempered star. Is it wrong that we find Christian's menacing glares and grumpy attitude rather sexy? Yes, alright, it probably is...
New Doctor Who "terrified" about taking over
We’re a bit sad when Doctor Who star David Tennant decided to hang up his, er, Tardis – but if truth be told, we’re a bit excited about his replacement, Matt Smith, who's taking over next year. But Matt’s a tad nervous about filling Mr Tennant’s shoes. He admits, “It’s a big commitment, and there’s a huge fanbase and all the responsibility that comes with it. [But] I’d have been mental not to do it, I think. I like the idea of a challenge.” Hmm, yes, “challenging” – Matt may well find his new guise as the Doctor rather challenging, as he hasn’t actually watched a lot of the 45-year old series. Oops. He says, “I wasn’t a Who fan. I have to be honest – I can’t claim to have watched the show in its entirety or have been a follower as avidly as some people are.” What do you think of the new Doctor, then? Will he be as good as David Tennant?
New drug hope for Jade
