Mary Kate Olsen has spoken damningly about her upbringing as a child star alongside her twin sister Ashley.
“I look at old pictures of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all,” said the 24-year-old. She also described her and her sister as “little monkey performers”.
These days the sisters are better known for their goth-tastic fashion ranges, but ten years ago they were the world’s best-loved child actors, having starred in the American sitcom Full House. According to Mary Kate the experience wasn’t all that pleasant. “I would never wish my upbringing on anyone,” she said, adding that their friends didn’t envy them but would “feel sorry for us... because it's kind of bittersweet”.
Fair enough. Compared to other child stars (cough, Lindsay Lohan, Corey Feldman, cough) the Olsens turned out quite normal. And that’s really saying something considering they are often seen shuffling around New York looking like something Camden Market coughed up in the mid-90s.
