Mel Gibson, as we reported a couple of days ago, was supposedly being lined up for a starring cameo role in The Hangover 2 movie. Hurrah! You might have thought... But all has not been well since the Mel Gibson news got out to other cast and crew. Indeed, one lead actor looks to have been particularly grumpy about the whole thing. So grumpy, in fact according to New York Magazine his grumpy-grump attitude has led to Mel Gibson being quickly ditched from the movie...
Confirming that Mel Gibson is now out of his plans, Deadline.com are reporting a statement from The Hangover 2 director Todd Phillips to read, "I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize (sic) filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."
So... who might it have been that caused a stink over Mel's appointment? Well, interestingly... Zach Galifianakis (the weirdy beardy, funny one who drugged the stag party in the original movie) was speaking to Comedy Death Ray during a recent podcast and said the following:
"But a movie you're acting in, you don't just have a lot of control - you just show up and vomit your lines out. I'm not the boss. I'm in a deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on, up in arms about something. But I can't get the guys to [listen]... I'm not making any leeway."
So there you go. Did Zach Galifianakis get Mel Gibson kicked off The Hangover 2? Or are these two things just merely co-incidental? Hmmmm.
And reasons for wanting Mel Gibson to be kicked off in the first place? Something to do with those drunk-driving, 'sugar tits' episodes? Those anti-semitic remarks? Perhaps the audio of him telling his then girlfriend that he was going to kill her and bury her in his rose garden? We could go on! Surely no worse though, as Deadline.com point out, than having Mike Tyson in the first flick - a man who served 3 years in prison for rape?
