The country music legend leapt to the defence of Miley Cyrus in an interview last night.
Dolly said on the Larry King show: "I'm hoping that Miley is going to be just fine. I know she's very gifted and I love her dearly and if she ever needs me I'll do everything I can to help her in any way that I can. So I think we should just let her grow up.”
That has to be a good day, when you discover Dolly Parton’s got your back. She’s got her own theme park and currency; now that we think about it Dolly is a bit like a fairy godmother in a panto. She has definitely got the wigs and the outfits for it.
Dolly continued to offer help to Miley: "I don't know if she's surrounded by people that are helping, you know, not making the wise decisions, but I know that she's going to be fine; or I certainly hope so.
“I never try to give people advice. I never wanted people giving me advice. I wanted information and I wanted to be left alone to do my own thing."
Dolly also said she hopes her signature look hasn't inspired Cyrus' risque outfits. "Hopefully she didn't get that from me because I certainly never encouraged her to do any of that. I think she's just trying to overcome the Hannah Montana little girl, and trying to become a young woman."
Wise words from Dolly, wise words indeed. If only Jolene had listened to Dolly, history would have been very different.
