Strictly Come Dancing could be in for a bit of a twist next year, with the possibility that same sex couples could feature in the show for the first time!
The ballroom dancing show has fast become a global phenomenon, with celebrities from 30 around the world hot-footing it across the dancefloor with their professional partners. Up until now each show has followed the same format, but Ryan Seacrest broke the news to his openly gay radio show guest Portia DeGeneres yesterday that the strict Dancing With The Stars format was going to change next year, and that bosses were "planning to feature a same-sex couple."
" You’re at the top of the list!" he told Portia DeGeneres (formerly Portia De Rossi, and now married to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres). "Goodness, you really do break news," she replied, adding that she might even be up for doing the show, "I’m not gonna pass, let me think about it. I used to be a ballet dancer. It’s not completely a pass. You never know."
If TV moguls in the US are planning to feature a same sex couple on Dancing With The Stars, then you can bet your bottom dollar that the stateside export will have spoken to the show's original version of the worldwide hit, Strictly Come Dancing here in the UK, and that the show here will likely adapt to follow suit. And why not? It sounds like a great idea to us!
So, who would you like to see feature next year though? Louie Spence doing the tango with Brendan Cole? Sue Perkins dancing the light fandango with Ola Jordan, or perhaps Christopher Biggins in a waltz with Anton Du Beke?!
