Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has had something of a busy festive period, what with claims about a hair transplant and yesterday’s tabloid claims that his wrinky mush may have been given a bit of a lift. And let’s not forget the financial troubles that the Kitchen Nightmares host has had with his own restaurants. But things could have been a whole lot worse for him… because he was apparently doused in petrol and held at gunpoint during the filming of his new show, Big Fish Fight!
The new Channel 4 show features Gordon’s Shark Bait, a section of the show where fiery Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay can be found heading to Costa Rica to look at the shady world of shark hunting and the subsequent trade in meat and fins.
He was left terrified though when he and his TV crew were set upon by one of the gangs they were filming, doused in gasoline and threatened with guns. The local police advised Gordon and the crew to flee the country for their own safety!
He told the Daily Mail that, "It's a multi-billion-dollar industry, completely unregulated. We traced some of the biggest culprits to Costa Rica. These gangs operate from places like forts, with barbed-wire and gun towers," says Gordon Ramsay.
"At one, I managed to shake off the people keeping us away, ran up some stairs to a rooftop and looked down to see thousands of fins, drying on rooftops for as far as the eye could see. When I got back downstairs, they tipped a barrel of petrol over me."
"Back at the wharf, there were people pointing rifles at us to stop us filming. A van pulled up and these seedy characters made us stand against a wall. The police came and advised us to leave the country. They said, 'If you set one foot in there, they'll shoot you.'"
Given his temper and his love of a foul-mouthed tirade, we’re slightly intrigued as to whether Gordon Ramsay told them to “Go f&%k yourselves, and your %$&?*% &%@**& you f&%%@* $$$ts” but, given that he’s alive, we reckon he probably bottled it.
Still, it has to be worth watching to see what really happened, doesn’t it?!
