We’ve had the Atkins, the Dukan, the South Beach, the cabbage soup and the cayenne pepper-and-sod-all-else diets, but there is a new celebrity-endorsed diet which has the benefit of being ever-so-cutely named. The sweet potato diet has a fan in Glee’s Matthew Morrison - he claims it’s the best way to get ripped abs.
So, what does this diet involve? Sweet potatoes once a day? Sweet potatoes with every meal? Uh, no. The diet is JUST sweet potatoes, for every single meal.
Matthew, who plays crooning Will Schuester on the hit show, eats nothing but the orange vegetable for three days before he has to go topless. “I had to have a six-pack on show. The potato acts as a sponge and your body literally shrinks and gets ripped and tight.”
He doesn’t stick to it for long afterwards, though. He told The Sunday Mirror: “Afterwards I ordered two pizzas and pasta.”
Just as Matthew is proud of his stomach, the same can’t be said of his previous roles. He recently got all bashful when Jay Leno showed him (and a few hundred thousand viewers) a clip of himself playing a gay boybander. The small role, which consisted of Matthew holding hands with other bandmembers and grabbing his crotch, was in Marci X. No, us either. Appaz it’s a 2003 film starring Lisa Kudrow and Damon Wayans.
The 32-year-old cringed and told Leno: “I can't believe you are doing this to me right now.”
“It was the gayest thing I have ever done in my life. Literally, I was in a gay boy band called Boys R Us.”
What do you think Matt prefers: sweet potatoes? Letting everyone know he’s a straight, red-blooded bloke? Or the word ‘literally’?
