We have to say that we were a little shocked this morning when we read that McFly (arguably some of the nicest guys in pop) had been a little bit mean about Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney by calling him a ‘really old, decrepit, old man.’ Erm…this did sound slightly out of character for the four piece! Plus, if they were going to start a war against someone we’re guessing it would be against someone pants, not a legend!
McFly were on tour in South America at the same time as idol Paul McCartney but their paths never crossed. Tom Fletcher, who was hoping to see the veteran on stage, said, ‘We were in Rio actually on that day and we had to leave to go back to Sao Paolo. Unfortunately, we missed the concert, but we watched online and it's incredible to hear him sing the classic Beatles songs. He's a complete legend obviously, and hopefully we'll get to that age someday.’ It was after these kind words that Harry Judd, the band’s drummer, was quoted as describing the sixty-eight year old as ‘a really old, decrepit, old man’… Oh dear!
After seeing the interview (with an Argentinian website) online Tom has taken to his twitter account to rectify the situation. He wrote, ‘BTW, if you've read that story about us having a dig at Paul Mccartney then it's bollocks. Harry was referring to himself & what he'd be like if we are still playing at Paul McCartneys age. They edited that video in a very cheeky way. Naughty naughty.’ Perhaps it was all lost in translation!
