Ricky Martin (you remember he did that Living la vida loca song, “Upside, inside out she's livin la vida loca, she'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca” etc etc) has admitted for the first time that he found it hard to come out as gay because he thought it might be bad for his career.
Speaking to American chat-show host Jay Leno (that bloke with the big head) he said,
"Being Ricky Martin back then and what I was feeling were not compatible. I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn't say that I was gay. It was a lot of struggle.” Aw.
Ricky went on to say that the way society viewed homosexuality was also a worry for him,
"If you add to that whether you call it culture, religion, society but what I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind, was evil and I'm very lucky today that what I have in my mind is love and I'm very happy."
All we can say is we’re glad he felt he could be himself eventually (even if it does mean that we can’t have sex with him).
