We were blown away when we saw the 60ft robot that was part of Take That’s latest tour. It’s hard to think of a pop act that wouldn’t be improved with the addition of a 60ft robot.
However it turns out that this robot is a bit naughty. Om (the robot has a name) has been wowing the fans but on Saturday night, he turned bad.
The boys normally sing while stood on Om’s hands. The giant robot then lowers them to the floor, but on Saturday the robot stopped moving leaving poor Howard and Mark stranded in the its mighty grasp.
It was supposedly a mechanical failure, but we like to think that Love Love is such a great song that it caused the robot to come alive and it realised that if it didn’t put the boys down they would carry on singing.
We would have done the same.
Gary told the crowd. "Normally at this point in the show we're all standing here together. But it seems that despite 300 people working on this show, you still get some hitches."
Howard and Mark didn’t seem too troubled by the robotic kidnap; they still managed to sing Never Forget while still in Om’s hands before escaping using a ladder.
This isn’t the first time that stage equipment has malfunctioned on performers. U2 were stranded inside a giant lemon a few times during their Popmart tour. We’d wonder how different the world would have been if U2 had been unable to escape.
