Not to be confused with Alf, Natalie Portman has named her baby boy 'Alef', the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
Natalie is currently engaged to the father of the baby, dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied. Their engagement was announced back on 27 December, but they have yet to set a wedding date. The 29-year-old actress met her fiancé when they worked together on the film Black Swan.
We’ve got to admit, we’re all pretty jealous of the actress’ successful year so far. Not only has she bagged herself a fiancé and a baby, Natalie won an Oscar in February for her portrayal of Nina Sayers in the thriller ballet.
Natalie gave birth to her son last month, and has been keeping us guessing on his name ever since. She is notorious for her secrecy, and has barely been spotted since the birth.
Rumours of the name Alef were leaked close to the birth, but many assumed it was just a mistake and that the boy was in fact due to be named Alex.
But Natalie has stuck to her Jerusalem roots. She moved to the US with her family when she was just three, but has always maintained that Israel is her home, ‘my heart is in Jerusalem. That’s where I feel at home’. We wonder how French born Millepied feels about this?
What do you think of the name Alef?
