Potty mouth singer Nicki Minaj has been slapped with a fine by police in Jamaica, after she swore repeatedly on stage. The penalty? The princely sum of $11.
Minaj broke Jamaican law on Saturday when she blasted obscenities live on stage during the closing set at the Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay. The songstress, whose real name is Onika Maraj, was duly summoned to court on Tuesday for a right telling-off, but she’d already left the country to join Britney Spears on tour and so was unable to attend.
Instead, local lawyer Hugh Thompson paid the $11 fine for her – $1,000 Jamaican dollars – and entered Nicki’s plea of guilty for swearing. She joins the ranks of other serial celeb swearers like Gordon Ramsay and, er, Gwyneth Paltrow. Honestly. Remember when she called her poor granny the C-word on the Chelsea Handler show back in April?
While we’re not too sure which expletives came of out the Nicki Minaj’s mouth, we’re told there were a few of them. On Twitter she seemed oblivious to any offense she might have caused, saying she had “[fallen] in love” with the country, which she visited for the first time to perform at the festival. She said: “OMG!!! I swear I just had the TIME of my LIFE @ ReggaeSumFest in JAMAICA!!!!! Jamaica I fell in love tonite! WOWWW!!!!”
We hope the feeling’s mutual, Minaj.
