From the moment Desperate Housewives hit our screens in 2004, we were hooked. Bitching, murder and more than a healthy dose of sexy times, this was the show we’d been waiting for. Now, after nearly eight seasons, the Wives of Wisteria Lane are hanging up their stilettos after being told the hit TV how wouldn’t be commissioned for a ninth season.
The decision to end the show was made by creator Marc Cherry. Marcia Cross, who plays flame-haired Bree Van De Kamp, said today, “I think Marc is right; this is the time; this is the moment... I want to see my fellows again. I had the best male co-stars; I want to see them back."
Ouch. “I had the best male co-stars”? That’s gotta pinch her female co-stars bums a bit. Feuds and arguments offset were widely reported with stories that the actresses were none-too-fond of each other surfacing left-right-and-centre during the early days of the show.
Felicity Huffman was a little more positive when asked how she felt about the end of the show that has seen her play wonder mum Lynne Scavo for the past seven years…
"I think we probably could have gone to nine, but I think it was too much of a risk to take and they really value Marc and the show."
Huffman has already starred, to critical acclaim, in Transamerica which saw her receive an Oscar nomination. Despite this, Felicity is still nervous about her future après Wisteria Lane.
You go into acting jail at the end of these things because it's hard for anyone to see you as anything other than Lynette Scavo or whatever it is. So I think it's unwise to look at the carnage around you of past television actresses and go, 'Well it's not going to happen to me.’ It probably will, which is why I'm planning on opening supermarkets and gas stations.”
Somehow, we can’t see Felicity serving down the local Wal-Mart any time soon, can you?
Which of the original Desperate Housewives do you think we'll be seeing more of once the show finally bites the dust?
