Gareth Gates singing to sold out crowds... on cruise ships

Well, this might just be the hottest ticket in town just after Steve Brookstein’s Café Nero tour of 2010. Get ready to scream: Gareth Gates will be performing a series of intimate gigs aboard P&O cruise liners!

Despite coming second to Will Young and being signed by Simon Cowell, Gareth’s career is now performing as a cabaret act to people who go on holiday on a boat.

Well, seeing as he has already done the West End, Dancing on Ice AND panto – there wasn’t really too many washed up popstar options left, unless he was up for eating kangaroo genitals. Ah, how the mighty have fallen. However, while we have our reservations, Gareth is certainly looking forward to it:

'I’ve never been on a cruise ship before but I’ve always wanted to and so this is going to be a fantastic experience for me.'

If you care to remember the GG wonder years, when he wasn’t off ‘getting to know’ Jordan, he did actually sell over 3.5 million records and we all absolutely adored him and his funny spiky hair do. We think we even had his calendar.

For those of you who are interested, Gareth is setting sail next month! If you do go, you are in for a treat as Gazza has even agreed to meet and greet following his performance.

Been on quite a few cruises and PO are my fav.Gareth is only doing two guest appearances on the Oceana this is normal for these cruise ships over in the caribbean etc.The American artist board, do a couple of shows then disembark at the next port of call. I read last week that Gareth was performing to sell out gigs. Isn't he a classically trained musician surely can't be compared to Steve Brookstein and the like.

Aww bless him, he's doing his thing and seems happy to be working at all. Cruises ain't cheap either, hardly a comparison to singing in a coffee shop! And he's got some integrity - don't think I've ever heard him slagging off his peers? Not like certain other bitter losers...

Gareth is ace can sing anything, he has an amazing voice and is also a fantastic actor, was in the West End with Les Miserable and did the Tour. Nothing wrong with singing on a Cruise ship as on this type of ship the entertainment is Top Class. Its not some little ferry. Wish I was on that cruise

I agree with both Aliaso & helter_skelter. He is really talented. I actually saw him in "Joseph" when he took over from Lee Mead 2 years ago, and I have to admit he was fantastic. I don't see him as a washed-up popstar HW, he works hard & supports his family. A washed-up popstar is someone like Steve Brookstein who now spends his time singing in Cafe Nerro & slagging off X Factor!

Brill. Another opportunity to see him singing and meet and greet too. I have been to serveral of his gigs this summer and seen him in Les Miserables. He was fab. So good to see Gareth still working very hard after his 10 years in music. He is a great role model to anyone who is prepared for hard work and earn their crust even with the reports of his millions in the bank. Looters take note!! It's called HARD WORK and YOU EARN IT!!!

Ha! My mum's just been listening to Gareth doing a concert of Les Miserables on Radio 2 and I think she'd want to go to this. I don't think it's fair to call him a washed up popstar. Doing musicals isn't easy, and the cruise ships pay really well. And he's hot. Where do I get tickets?

Oh, those were the days of yore...I was 13 when Pop Idol was really huge at the time, more than half of my school were obsessed with Gareth, it was mad! I heard he's performing at Pontins in Prestatyn, Wales next week. I know this because my best friend is a Bluecoat there!
