Gary Barlow is a full-on X Factor mentor, says Robbie Williams

Who else would Gary Barlow take with him to help out during the judges’ house stage of The X Factor by Robbie Williams? It had to be him, didn’t it?

Lucky for us Robbie has been blabbing about working in LA with Gary as they decide which boys wil make the live X Factor finals, revealing that Gary is going to put all other X Factor judges – past and present – to shame,

"As a mentor he is going to be full on. He's going to be closer than anyone has been in the past. I think that is what's needed. Previously judges maybe gave the acts half an hour if they were lucky. The ones that are going to make it need help, need a guiding arm put around them.

“Gary knows what he is doing. In this Gary is competitive — because it is music. I think we will also see a change in his behaviour as he becomes more competitive as the show goes on."

Gary has also admitted he has hectic work schedule planned for his category,

“These boys are going to get a shock because I have a really high standard. This is my first year on the show so I want to look good, so people go, 'Wow.'

"I have a weekly schedule for the boys. And the good thing is pretty much when we get home from LA I have nothing in my diary other than this show. I know this is all I am going to do so all my attention will wear them down. I think you are going to see for the first time real mentoring going on, with time being put into these kids. And we are going to see a better quality of acts this year because of it.”

I think they increased the ages of the boys and girls, to accommodate Matt last year, but it's still a huge gap. Some of the people they put through to the bootcamp are obviously just there to be laughed at.

Did they change it to over 28's last year? I can't remember. It just seems like a place where novelty acts go to be laughed at now

He does, yes. I think the over 25s is mad tbh. It's too big an age group, it should be separated into smaller sections.

Think so - he has managed some pretty successful groups. He puts through better groups than oldies!

Didn't he have the groups ages ago, when JLS came second? I think so because he likes to shout 'I discovered JLS and Westlife'.
