Say what you like about those Gallagher brothers (they’ve been quite outspoken in the past and love to voice their outlandish opinions) but every now and then one of them will say or do something that makes you view them in a completely different light – like Noel confessing that he was rooting for Matt Cardle to go to the top of the album charts, rather than himself! Who’d have thought it?
He told The Sun, “Matt Cardle seems like a nice bloke. I'd have preferred it if he got it - share the wealth and all that, and he's a young lad just starting out.
“I was glad I made the record and when I finally heard the finished thing it was good but anything else is ouhert of your hands.
“When I heard Matt Cardle was out the same day there was a collective sigh because it's The X Factor and these crazy schoolgirls tend to buy a lot of records for some reason. But [topping the chart] didn't make me feel any greater or more special than I did the minute before someone told me it was number one. I like the record and if people like it, that's it, other than that whatever happens, happens.”
Matt Cardle fans who didn’t run out and buy a copy of the album shouldn’t feel too bad though, as the gap between the two men wasn’t that close… Matt shifted (a very respectable) 70,000 copies of his album, whereas Noel sold a whopping 120,000.
