The man who falsely accused Louis Walsh of sexual assaulting him in a right club toilet has been in court today, and he’s given his apology to Louis.
24-year-old Leonard Watters took to the witness box at Dublin District Court to say sorry to The X Factor judge, stating, “I would like to sincerely apologise to Mr Louis Walsh for all the stuff I put him through. The allegation was false.”
Detective inspector Michael Cryan explained that CCTV footage taken from inside Krystle nightclub had been reviewed the day before Watters spoke to police and gave them his second false statement on 27 June, and that the filmdid not match up to Watters’ account of events. DI Cryan has been quoted as saying, “It became obvious the CCTV did not support his allegations. He admitted Louis Walsh did not sexually assault him, [but] he continued to claim he was sexually assaulted in the toilets but that Louis Walsh did not do it."
Watters’ is due to be sentenced later this afternoon by judge Dermot Dempsey.
Louis has previous admitted that the scandal caused by the false claims led him to consider suicide, so we hope the X Factor judge can get some closure on this horrible incident now.
