Break-ups happen every day in Celebville. Hell, some famous folk only manage to stay married for a matter of days (yes, Kim Kardashian, we do mean you). But occasionally you hear about a split that genuinely shocks you – and today is one of those days. We thought that Dave Berry and his Sugababe Heidi Range were the real deal. We thought they would get married and have lots of very well-dressed and good-looking babies. Alas, it's not to be. Today the couple issued a statement confirming that they have split up.
“Dave Berry announced today that his engagement to partner Heidi Range has been broken off. Mr Berry announced the news today although the couple agreed to separate in the autumn. The split is amicable and no third parties are involved, and he will make no further statement on the issue.” Oh dear. Heidi took to Twitter to have her say, telling followers, “Very sadly, after eight years together, myself and Dave decided to separate a few months ago. I wish him nothing but the best in life.”
Hang on a minute, did she say eight years? Wow and ser! Eight years is at least 75 in celeb years! Dave and Heidi met back in 2003 and Dave proposed to the Sugababes singer on New Year's Eve in 2009 when they were on holiday together in India. Thought of as one of the strongest and most enduring couples in showbiz, news of the split has certainly come as a shock. It was thought that the couple would marry this winter, and Heidi had even talked about her plans for the bridal gown. Verysadface.
Dave has of course just been announced as the new presenter on Capital FM's Breakfast Show, where he'll take over from Johnny Vaughn alongside co-presenter Lisa Snowdon. Heidi, meanwhile, is in training for the new series of Dancing On Ice. At least they're keeping busy, we suppose. Still, we're a bit sad that this one didn't last the distance. Having said that, we'd just like to state in writing right here that, Dave, we are very much single and available...
