We love Beyonce Knowles. This is a fact. But we’re not sure we love her as much as Texan company Armdeonce Ventures, who are planning to build a monument to the Destiny’s Child singer in her home town of Houston. They have creatively entitled the plan, the “Beyonce Knowles Monument Project”.
Marcus Mitchell and Steve White, who own the company, have said to Fox, “Our biggest thing is a lot of people get honoured when they die, so our goal is to why not honour people while they're still here? We felt as though it’s her time to be honoured.”
The pair aren’t just talking about a little stone bust though, this is America after all. “We wanted to construct, like, a massive hall so as the doors open, if you donated to the monument, you'll have a separate nameplate,” Marcus says. “There will be clips of Beyonce with Destiny’s Child and wardrobe like a mini museum.” Is it just us, or does he sound like a megafan who got a bit over-excited while dancing to Single Ladies with his pal?
According to Marcus, they’ve got actual proper official backing, though. “We’ve gotten support from the city of Houston, from the mayor. We’re waiting for a very nice letter from the mayor right now.” Yeah, we’re still waiting for our letter back from the Queen asking for a pony when we were five. We’re expecting it any day now.
Before you start thinking Marcus and Steve are just going to blast out Beyonce’s greatest hits and dance around inside the “massive hall” (not that there’s anything wrong with that), they have assured investors that it’s all for a good cause. “The proceeds from this project will go towards the construction, housing, and unveiling of this monument, as well as to several charitable causes […] and hunger victims around the world.”
If all goes as planned, the unveiling will happen in September, on Beyonce's birthday. Hey, maybe if it takes off we’ll end up with a Colin Firth Square, or Robert Pattinson’s Column *snigger*
