If you’re anything like us then you are probably using January to shift a few pounds, well, at least your intentions are there anyway. So it’s always nice to hear advice from those who have been there and done that. And one girl who knows all about downsizing is Jennifer Hudson!
Speaking to The Huffington Post about her diet, the Dream Girls star said:
"I had the diet mentality of thinking that to lose weight you have to deprive yourself or you have to work out massively so I had to get that out of my head, get out of that state of mind and trust the plan and that's what I've done to this day,"
So if it’s not all about lettuce leaves and sweating your leggings off on the cross trainer, then just what is dieting all about? According to Jennifer, the key to a hot bod is honesty:
" You have to be real and honest with yourself. I had to stop and look and ask myself, 'Why do I want this? What is the real reason?' At times it was comfort food like chocolate. I love chocolate and I realised it relaxes me, so when you acknowledge what the issue is, you can control it better."
And Jen reckons that if you get that right, you can pretty much eat what you want. Within reason…
"Now I have pizza all the time. I have whatever I want, it's just how to have it.” (Which must be air pizza with an extra topping of celery...) “Before I started Weight Watchers I hadn't had pizza in over ten years because I had the diet mentality which clearly did not work."
But even if losing weight doesn’t have to be a struggle (something we will forever have our suspicions about as long as Krispy Kreme stays in business) is it all worth it? Ms Hudson definitely would say a big yes!
“People are friendlier; there are more opportunities, more flexibility in so many different ways.
Not that Jen condones this reality, however:
"I think it's messed up that people are so image-driven and your appearance affects the way people treat you. It's crazy and it may be something we do subconsciously, but there it is."
