Adele's throat surgeon:

We were all a bit worried about Grammy-laden girl of the hour Adele what with all her gruesome throat problems, but things are now looking pretty positive – her surgeon Dr Steven Zeitels has said that it’s unlikely to be a problem in the future.

The good doctor explained that Adele’s issues were with bleeding from a benign polyp. Eww.

The singer had to stop performing because “If you’re bleeding into a vocal cord you can’t regularly perform because you don’t know when the bleeding will occur. Once there has been bleeding you have to immediately stop a performance and rest."

"The polyp disturbs the normal vocal cord vibration, so it becomes a little bit harder to sing and more unreliable. It’s a bit of a vicious cycle.” Poor little cords! Nasty little polyp!

Adele’s throaty woes are apparently very common. “Singers are vocal athletes – it’s the same as an American football player having a knee problem,” Dr Zeitels told the BBC.

“It doesn’t mean you can’t get it fixed and go right back on the field."

The doctor said that now the problem has been sorted with surgery: "It’s like you have a new slate. I’ve done this on many singers, and I believe it’s the result of the individual performer’s work ethic. She’s a truly terrific wonderful singer, and there is this amazing ethic that she has - that the show must go on.”

And indeed it will. Hurrah!
