Mel B sends Phoenix to Sydney state school

She’s been capering about keeping us all entertained in proper starry cash-flashing style for the last few years, but it seems Mel B is still a down-to-earth Yorkshire lass at heart. According to Digital Spy the mum of three has enrolled her eldest daughter in an ordinary state school in Sydney, saying it’s perfectly good enough for her, so there.
Phoenix Chi, Mel’s 13-year-old daughter by former Spice Girls dancer Jimmy Gulzar, isn’t going to any posh private school since her mum reckons Rose Bay Secondary College is fine and it’s good to keep it real.
“The teachers are great, the kids are nice,” she shrugged to DJ Eddie McGuire. “There's always going to be a few little bad kids, hopefully mine doesn't turn out too bad.” Hopefully Phoenix won’t read that… it’ll only give her rebellious ideas.

“The public schools are great in Sydney, so that’s where they’re staying and it’s less cash for me,” Mel said.  It’s certainly one way to stay thrifty – Mel’s just bagged a new gig as the host of Dancing With The Stars, but does this educational frugality mean the Belafonte household is a little hard-up? Maybe she does need the rumoured Spice Girls reunion to happen, then...
