Natalie Cassidy has revealed why she got back with ex-fiance Adam Cottrell. The Eastenders star had split from Cottrell last year, after arguments between them turned “physical”, but Natalie has since changed her mind about him.
She went on This Morning to explain the reconciliation, blaming alcohol for Adam’s violence: “Adam and drink didn’t mix from the beginning. It did change and it got worse. I was permanently on edge for him to have one drink – I put pressure on him.”
She added that though he upset her, she stayed with Adam out of embarrassment: “Arguments weren’t verbal anymore, they became physical. We had an argument – he took a slipper and hit me. I’m a strong person but I was humiliated.”
“I stayed because it takes a while you feel embarrassed you don’t what to tell your family members straight away.”
Natalie eventually left Adam, and testified against him in court. He was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and given a restraining order to stop him from contacting Natalie.
"I wasn't beaten black and blue"
Natalie later decided to drop the restraining order so that Adam could be in contact with their 17-month-old baby, Eliza. And after finding about him relapsing into alcoholism, she decided to take him back: “He was found … drunk in an old lady's garden. It was a frightening relapse."
"He had stopped drinking and thought he could do it on his own - but he can't.
“After that incident he called me and something turned in my brain and I realised he needs help.”
Natalie then spoke about her experience of domestic violence quite lightly: “I’d never condone it… but I wasn’t beaten black and blue. Life is amazing without the constant fear in our lives.”
Hmmm. Natalie, we don’t like the sound of this at all.
