The 9 O’Clock News – Why Adele was cut off during her acceptance speech

We were shocked, like everyone else when Adele was cut off during her acceptance speech for the Master Card Album Of The Year award. It was a big moment for Adele and she was clearly moved by winning in front of a home crowd, but sadly James Corden had to stop her to introduce Blur.

Adele was upset and made a naughty gesture before leaving the stage (read the interview with Adele where she explains it was aimed at ‘the suits’ not the fans). ITV and the Brit Awards have now issued a statement explaining what happened.

An ITV spokesman said: "The BRITs is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."

A BRITs spokesman followed ITV's statement: "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."

    ITV show ads to get money! Not to please viewers! The Brits is a hugely watched show, they will never drop the ads

    With regard to adverts, if BBC had adverts we wouldn't have to pay tv licence. Swings and roundabouts!

    I didn't watch the Brits but I guess ITV have to learn a lesson here, what to do and what not to do in future. I'm not Adele's no.1 fan but she is the pride of Britain at the minute. As for Estelle on X Factor, I think she'd be quite good. She has more "street cred" (I cringed typing that!) than even Tulisa. And I think Patrick Kielty and Cat Deeley make a nice couple.

    I think it's all a lot of guff. Human error, albeit probably one of the schoolboy variety. Why don't ITV just scrap the adverts for big shows like the Brits? Thereby avoiding these situations and toys being thrown out of prams. Are we really going to mind if we don't get constant reminders to buy Nutella/Andrex/Optrex/insurance for two hours? I think Adele made herself look like a bit of a tool with her one fingered salute.

    The way i see it is the producers should have told Blur from the off to keep their speech short and to the point. If they can broadcast the news late for a sporting event then why couldn't they hold back a few minutes to let both Adele have her say and let Blur do their performance as well. Either that or puta bit more of their performance over on ITV2

    Why did they not just let her finish and cut blur off more ? bit wrong Adele was not allowed to finish, move the Brits to BBC next year no adverts = more time for the real show!
