Jessica Fox and Ashley Taylor Dawson, who play cute couple Nancy Hayton and Darren Osborne on ace Channel 4 soap and definite hangover cure Hollyoaks, are also together IRL. They took some time out of their busy schedules being cute together to talk to heat about their upcoming on-screen nuptials…
Jess, you trained in Musical Theatre, do you ever see yourself going back to that?
Jess: Yeh definitely. I’d never say never. I’ve been really lucky that I’ve done stage, theatre, film, radio and ticked all the boxes. I would really love to tick them all again.
Do you ever bond as a couple off screen?
Ashley: We try not to talk really [he jokes]. We had a lovely night last night, we went to see Carly in Legally Blond, she used to be on the show, she played Steph. We had a nice night, we went out we got drunk. I mean... no we didn’t. Oops, yes we did.
You are planning your wedding on screen and you’re also engaged off-screen. Will you be planning your ‘real life’ wedding?
A: No, I’ve just had a little boy, he’s 11 months old and the best thing that has ever happened to me and that comes first. I would like to do something bizarre for my wedding , I wouldn’t just want to have a traditional wedding. I’d like to do something crazy , I don’t want to rush it. I want to do it when it’s right.
How has it been planning the on-screen wedding?
J: I was going to drop something in there but I can’t cause I can’t talk about whether we get married or not.
A: The planning is typical Darren, he has big ideas. His heart is in the right place but he always comes up with these ridiculous ideas. A surprise wedding is a beautiful idea and he just wants to prove to Nancy how much he loves her. But the reality of the idea is ridiculous but you know he does very well getting there. But whether or not they get married…
Will there be sparks flying on the big day?
A: There will be a lot of drama! There’s a lot of great stuff coming up as well afterwards. Jess, Mitzeee recently gave you a letter which she told you not to open. Have you ever been given anything and told not to open it?
J: Probably. I was always one of those kids who’s mum would tell them ‘don’t put your hand in the fire it’s hot’ and I would go ‘what fire? This fire? Ouch!’.

You talked about your music on the Heatworld Twitter takeover, what’s happening there?
A: I just do a bit of dance music out of work, but I try and keep it nameless. So that people don’t know it’s me, so you get the real response of what you’re doing. There is something I am doing at the moment which is quite big which I’m excited about.
How do you escape from all the stressful storylines at work?
J: Book holidays!
A: I climb a tree and meditate at the top whilst eating a lemon, funnily enough.
What will viewers see of the couple in the coming weeks?
J: Well it’s definitely not the end of Nancy and Darren, whether they get married or not. And we’ve got, as Ash was saying- some really exciting stuff coming up and it’s very dramatic!
Hollyoaks kicked of Torso Of The Week last year- can we do a picture of your torso for Twitter?
A: What, now!? No. A topless picture now?
J: He needs some notice, you can’t do that to him.
A: A nice photoshoot, maybe. But not now. I haven’t shaved my belly!
Find out what happens to Darren and Nancy on Hollyoaks every weeknight on Channel 4 at 6.30pm, or on the omnibus at 9.05am on Sundays.
