Of all the trends we’d predicted for S/S 2012, we really weren’t expecting one of them to be sports kit and hockeysticks. But that's all changed after Kate Middleton - who played hockey at the University of St Andrews - took up the game again.
Last week, she visited the Olympic Park in Stratford to have a knock about with the British women's' hockey team. Wowing in a pair of Pink jeans and a hoody, she looked elegant yet relaxed at the same time. Oh Kate, you lovely thing.
Even though hockey season’s almost over, the 'Kate effect' has immediately taken hold, and Littlewoods.com has seen a surge in hockey equipment sales. Hockey stick sales have increased 238%, shin guard sales have gone up 114% and hockey bag sales have gone up 89%.
Royal carriage ride
In other Kate-related news, it has just been confirmed that her and Prince William are to join Queen Elizabeth on a carriage ride, in a repeat of the route that they took after their wedding last year. The couple is to take part in the Diamond Jubilee procession on June 5th, and will also be joined by Prince Phillip, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and, of course, Prince Harry.
Just like the royal wedding, the royal family will congregate on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch an RAF flypast. They’ll also wave that silly wave that they do to all of the crowds.
Afterwards, they’ll go to an exclusive lunch for 700 special guests, selected from indutries and liveries across the country, and then the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will fire a 60-gun salute. Yeah, like any other anniversary celebrations, really. Pretty low-key, no frills...
Are you looking forward to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations?
