Who in the whole wide world hasn’t seen the wonder that is Grease? As youngsters we used to meticulously practice our You’re the One that I Want dance around the playground. Minus the cigarette toe-smashing, obvs. We used crush our candy sticks instead. Anyway, being Sandra Dee was a dream of ours. So guess how we feel when we hear that the actual original Sandra, Olivia Newton-John, thinks that Taylor Swift could be the Sandy for the modern ages! Gutted. Our dream is officially over. We actually always secretly wanted to be naughty Cha Cha anyway so THERE!
Speaking to Showbiz Tonight Olivia said she would be sort-of all right if the powers that be chose to remake the legendary musical but only if Taylor Swift could play the role of Sandy. Well, either Taylor or Olivia’s own flesh and blood. So, definitely not us then. Great.
"I'm sure they'll try [a remake], and I think it would probably do well because people would be curious. But there's something about the originals... that people still want to see. But I'm sure they'll do it, and they'll do an updated version, and it'll be great. Lately, I've thought Taylor Swift could probably [play Sandy], because she's very talented. And my daughter, I've always thought she could."
We can kind of see what she’s getting at. Taylor is as wholesome as wholesome can be so she’d definitely make a good Sandra, but could she really become a great Sandy? We just can’t imagine the sweet-as-pie country singer rocking out in super-tight skinnies and a little bra-top, can you?
