When most people are short of money, they eBay their old clothes, or sell their old things in a car-boot sale. But Pete Doherty's not most people. The former Libertines frontman has decided to auction off some of his old tat.
The items include paintings - that he's added to with his own blood - private diaries, military jackets, guitars and other nicknacks. Speaking of the auction, he said: "Blood plays the starring role in my work. Sweat and tears are often waiting in the wings."
According to The Independent, the wayward star, who famously used to date Kate Moss, is trying to make a mark as a serious fine artist, using a technique called "arterial splatter" where he uses a syringe to squirt blood onto a canvas. Or, if he's feeling lazy, he cuts a finger and draws with it. Excuse us while we swallow down that little bit of sick that just came up.
The show-stopper is meant to be his collaboration with Amy Winehouse. It's called Ladylike, and the late Rehab singer's contribution is a self-portrait drawn in her own blood. It's estimated that the painting will make £50,000-£80,0000 when it is sold at London's Cob Gallery.
This isn't the first time Pete's exhibited his art. In February he had a show called 'On Blood: A Portrait of the Artist' where 15 out of 20 paintings were sold. One went for as high as £7,000! At the time, Ladylike was exhibited, but wasn't allowed to be sold "due to its personal nature".
At the time, Pete said: "Amy was on the phone to her dad when she did that [painting]. She said, 'Dad, I'm with Pete and he's making me draw with my blood!' He didn't like me much, her dad." No wonder!
For some reason he's decided to change his mind about putting the painting up for sale. We wonder where all the profit from this art will end up…?
