Inside the minds of the T4 presenters – part two with Will Best and Georgie Okell

Inside the minds of the T4 presenters – part two with Will Best and Georgie Okell

T4 On The Beach celebrates its 10th birthday on July 1, so we’ve decided to delve deep into the minds of the presenters. We’ve already had a word with Jameela Jamil, Nick Grimshaw and Matt Edmondson in part one, so now it’s time to hear from the other half of the T4 gang: Will Best and Georgie Okell.

What can we expect from this year's T4 On The Beach?

Georgie Okell: Well it’s our 10th birthday so we’ll be singing Happy Birthday to ourselves quite a lot. And we’re cooking an enormous cake for 40,000 people.

Will Best: Do you have any idea what a cake for 40,000 people looks like? Me and Georgie are baking it ourselves. But also, the actual answer to that question is that there are some amazing acts at this year’s T4 On The Beach. Every year the acts are amazing but this year especially so – only half the acts have been announced and the second half of the announcement promises to include a VERY big name; we don’t know who it is yet. And there’s going to be some old T4 presenters popping up as well.

Which ghosts of T4’s past would you really like to see?

W: For me, it has to be Stevie Jones.

G: I’d love it to be Chungers [Alexa Chung] or Miquita Oliver because those were the guys that were on T4 when I was at uni watching it. It was the first time for me that I’d seen young, female presenters who were just themselves; funny, clever and cool.

W: And you thought you could just go in there, and undo all the good work they’d done.

G: Yeah. I’m not funny or intelligent but I am a girl.

Which act from the T4 On The Beach line-up are you most looking forward to seeing?

G: I am very excited to see Rita Ora play this year because she’s about to be big.

W: It’s Labrinth for me, because I love what he brings to the stage in terms of musical instrument performances. At T4 Stars, when he did Earthquake he absolutely smashed it – he was doing all the stuff on the keyboard, then he’d just run around and play the guitar. It was sick. He was sick. And that’s a health and safety nightmare, and that’s how Jedward slipped that time.

What’s been your favourite T4 On The Beach moment from the past few years?

W: It definitely has to be one of the many injuries.

G: Peter Andre falling off the stage was a classic.

W: He was actually singing out of time, so he probably thought, ‘This is going really badly,’ so he threw himself off the stage.

What’s been your best T4 moment in general?

G: I got to go to Hawaii and interview The Rock and the cast of Journey2: The Mysterious Island, which is like a big, fun, family-friendly adventure.

W: Is that the quote you used to try and get on the movie’s advert on the back of heat magazine?

G: Oh, or when my quote was used on the front of all the Twilight DVDs in the country, but they spelt my name wrong.

W: I did a quote for the Avengers Assemble film to try and get on the back of heat. I used the phrase ‘Big on LOLs. Huge on excitement.’ I sent over a few options. I also said, ‘The most fun you’ll have sitting down this year. But not the most fun you’ll have lying down, because obviously you can have… massages. Anyway, back to what you actually asked me. I got back from Istanbul yesterday to do a James Bond junket. I went on the set of James Bond, and that. Was. Cool. I also interviewed the new Bond girl, Berenice Marlohe, and I couldn’t speak because she was so attractive. It was awful. I felt like a child who’d wet himself. She waves her hands around a lot when she talks, and so do I, so I was hoping we’d accidently end up holding hands.

Who’s got the best style out of the current T4 presenters?

W: Just to let you know, I usually dress way cooler than this…

G: I think Grimmy [Nick Grimshaw] always looks pretty cool.

W: I’m actually digging you’re vibes at the minute, big time. I want to go colourful and Georgie’s going to help me. I think everyone dresses cool actually. You know where you are with Matt, and that’s firmly in the knitwear section of Topman. And that’s a good place to be – cosy.

Who’s the most annoying out of you guys?

G: Matt [Edmondson] doesn’t have annoying habits, but if you dare to eat any of his chocolate out of the fridge, you’ll know about it. Matt famously invited one of his friends to live with him for a while and the friend on two occasions ate some of Matt’s chocolate out the fridge and Matt evicted him.

W: And he stinks.

Which celeb have you got the hots for?

G: I think Grimes [Nick Grimshaw] is ‘the one’.

W: I’m going to say Berenice Marlohe, but I think she’s actually too attractive. Plus, she might be disappointing naked. She might have spent two hours and thousands of pounds getting into the position to be interviewed by me. It’s a complicated position, including pulleys and harnesses.

Who’s the celeb you’ve felt most nervous about interviewing?

W: I was worried about interviewing Daniel Craig but he was actually pretty cool and said I could be in the next Bond film.

G: I met Jason Donovan and he used to be my idol when I was younger, so that made me really nervous. And I met Sara Cox at a party and I’ve always loved her; I always listened to her on the radio. So it’s people like that, that make me nervous. And Kristen Stewart made me incredibly nervous as well.

W: I actually met Sara Cox the same time as Georgie and I ended up in between her legs. I dropped something on the floor and it got blown by the wind and I was literally right underneath Sara Cox. She did leave soon after…
